The 1st Murrumbateman Joeys are boys and girls aged between 6 to 8 years.
Weekly meetings are aimed towards focusing on having fun and making friends. The individual Joeys will be part of the Joey Mob. They will learn about the environment in which they live, the native birds and animals. They play a variety of games, do craft activities, cooking, sing songs and read stories. Activities and learning experiences are designed to be fun and are tailored to the age group and the interests of the members.
Joeys have developed ongoing skill building in hygiene, safety and motor skills by participating in a variety of planned activities such as cooking, craft, group and individual games. A Joey will learn how to cook pancakes or make special cards for Mum and Dad. They will learn all about fun things, like what came first, the chicken or the egg.
Joey activities include:
- Bush walking
- A visit to the beach, fire station or yurt farm
- Cooking and crafts
- Staying safe
- Team building games which build respect and confidence
- Art and Craft
Badges and certificates are awarded to young achievers. The badges earned for the different activities are sewn on to a Joey Scout shirt. Joey Scouts also have a special Joey Scout scarf, as well as a special woggle to keep it in place.
When a Joey turns eight they can move on to Cubs, which is the next stage in Scouting.
